Speed Dating Tips
It's only natural that you may feel a bit nervous when you come along to one of our events for the first time. The thing to remember is that everyone is in the same boat, and as the evening progresses you will relax into the atmosphere and let your true qualities shine through. By the end of the evening you'll wonder how it managed to fly by so quickly and you'll have met 20 or so interesting people you wouldn't normally meet.
Here are some tips to help you get the best out of your speed datingevents.
Dress To Impress!
We don't have a strict dress code but we would suggest that you wear something that you feel comfortable in and something that's smart. Ripped jeans and a crumpled T-Shirt probably won’t create a great first impression and you only have an initial four minutes to impress.
Things To Say
Obviously there are no hard and fast rules about what to say but key to a successful four minute date is to strike a balance between asking and answering questions. People who are nervous sometimes get carried away and talk about themselves for the entire four minutes which can put people off so let it be a two way conversation.
To avoid getting stuck on the night, or getting a complete memory block we suggest that its a good idea to write some questions down. Obviously it’s not an interrogation so again strike that all important balance between asking and answering.
Here are some common questions that could help you:
- What's your favorite restaurant?
- What kind of films do you like?
- What would be a perfect day for you?
- What places have you travelled to or would you like to travel to?
- What are you passionate about?
Things Not To Say
It's probably a good idea not to ask exactly where people live, don't press for that address just yet until you both feel comfortable with one another.
It's generally also a good idea not to talk about any previous dates you haven't liked during the evening you attend. Remember, people do tend to come with friends so the last person you were just dating may be a good friend of the person you are about to talk to.
Generally no one wants to hear about your ex or failed relationships so steer clear of that.
